From the Wreck, acrylic on canvas, 183cm x 91.5cm. Sauce, 2014.
This idyllic skewed horizon of the view from the Wreck at Byron Bay is an idealized image of the geographic landscape which attracts thousands of visitors to the iconic location. While Byron Bay has fast become a travel Mecca for European backpackers and latte swilling Sydney-siders, it was once an unheard of hippy town, in the back of no-where. This previously quiet and tranquil beach was the stomping grounds of a young Sauce, where he learnt to surf and appreciate the beauty of the sublime.
