Alpha

I enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with the amazing Lucy Senior and return to Alpha, Queensland for another mural. We tackled the challenge of creating a piece to reflect the existing artwork on a site of a Queensland Rail Goods Shed that will soon be decommissioned. We put in some solid sessions painting 8 humans, 5 birds, 2 dogs and a lizard amongst landscape and text elements. We enjoyed exchanging techniques, ideas and knowledge throughout the concept development and painting process. I often mention that I always enjoy the painting process and it was a pleasure to work alongside Lucy and have a yarn with some familiar faces around town. Alpha

It was great to return to Iningai country to complete another public art commission in Alpha. This time it was awesome to have the opportunity to work with another artist and good friend Lucy Ann Artistry. This collaboration has been several years in the making since meeting Lucy in her role as an art teacher in Blackall.

We painted and talked visual art non stop with the exception of exchanging numerous motorbike and broken bone stories. We endured extreme heat, rain and wind sometimes all at once but that’s classic outback Queensland conditions. Our dogs Mac & Diesel supervised, overseeing much of the creative process whilst seeking pats from the public and locals alike. I am very much looking forward to working alongside Lucy for future projects growing her mural painting experience and art business knowledge and expanding my portraiture and figurative painting skills.

Several local community members and visitors checked on progress and it was great to receive such positive feedback on the new murals.

Alpha

After almost 3 weeks in Winton I made my way to Alpha and completed menu boards for the Golf Club. It was great to work with familiar faces and contribute to new beginnings and upgrades at the club. I enjoyed the challenge and pretty much just got stuck into it, it was a nice day to be working inside avoiding the cool, gusty outback winds.

As I measured, contemplated options and lay out some sort of plan to fit the menu onto a single design to a prescribed theme, I reflected on my struggles as a child to write any kind of coherent text let alone stay within the confines of the lines. I used to get in trouble for poor writing, I could barely scratch out cursive in high school. Then graffiti changed everything, I developed a love for letters and the desire to explore custom and practice existing fonts.

For a job that I did on the fly with no formal training I am satisfied with the outcome and I relish the opportunity to do more of this kind of work in the future as it seemed to serve the client down to a tee (Pun intended)
