Upper Mt Gravatt

It was great to return to Upper Mt Gravatt State School after completing quite a few murals around the school grounds over the years. This time I was commissioned to create a backdrop for the newly established Community Garden. I really enjoyed contributing to this initiative as I believe every school should have some form of edible garden. It ties to many subjects and promotes healthy eating amongst an array of beneficial outcomes. Also whilst painting I noticed community members visiting to say hi to the chickens and tend to patches. Many local residents don’t have the space for gardens or animals so these types of spaces are a valuable resource, providing an opportunity that would not otherwise be accessible. A huge thanks to the Upper Mt Gravatt P&C for the opportunity to be involved and I can’t wait to to see the gardens continue to grow.

Rosewood

It was great to complete my first mural at Rosewood State School over the weekend. The brief was to clearly define the schools tuckshop with bold use of colour. The artwork really transformed the space and generated some fantastic responses from students, staff and the P&C. I am looking forward to creating more murals with Rosewood soon.

Emerald

The middle of summer didn’t deter me from hitting the road for another adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed kicking off the year with a project in Emerald, Central Queensland. I had completed the first stage last year and the Emerald State High School P&C were again great to work with. The designs were based from a stack of references submitted by students and I had a fun challenge of applying them. There’s always ideas I never would have thought of such as an electric guitar being consumed by tentacles.

I also made time to do a fresh piece at the BMX track while I was in the area.

Shailer Park

Shailer Park State School has kept me busy over the years with numerous murals, design and signage projects. This time I was set the challenge to create a weather station and chalk boards to be used as learning tools for the younger students. There were a few elements that took some time to refine through the design and fabrication stages to ensure the product suits the application.

Mt Cotton

It was great to return to Mt Cotton State School last week. The school is currently undergoing big changes to cater for growing enrolments and its awesome to contribute to the new look. I had painted a frog on this site back in 2007 and I am super happy to return to give the shed a fresh design.

Tallebudgera

I recently answered the call to complete a couple of small murals at Tallebudgera Valley State School on the Gold Coast. The Tally Tiger is the coolest cat around so I developed a cartoon version of the school mascot to assist in reinforcing the school mantra and positive behaviour.

Emerald

The new decade kicked off with a couple of projects in Emerald, Central Queensland. I completed the first stage of a project with Emerald State High School which saw a stack of positive messages in focus. I also completed a number of artworks for the Green Space Youth Drop in. This is an initiate of Central Highlands Regional Council, PCYC & Anglicare. Putting a day between projects to use to paint a new piece at the local BMX track wall made for a super productive couple of weeks.

I was assigned the task of completing an addition to the memorial wall at Mt Cotton State School. It is never and I hope the artwork brings joy to the memories and assists with the healing/grieving process. The great manners and initiative of students to open the gate while my hands were full put a smile on my face.

Mt Cotton State School I think was the the first school I completed a project back in 2000 or 2001. I have enjoyed a great relationship with the school with 9 Murals over the years, each still serving well. Previous principals and teachers have engaged my services at their new schools and many of these works have been great folio examples.

Barcaldine

It was great to return to St Joseph’s Primary in Barcaldine recently. I had the opportunity to brighten up a number of spaces. It was great to be a part of some of the new things happening at the school, see familiar faces and meet new ones. The friendly staff and students at Joey’s always make me feel welcome.

Boulia

It was my first trip to Boulia and what an adventure! After recent rain the flora and fauna of Outback Queensland was not like I’d seen in years. I completed two large murals at Boulia State School. Thanks to the school staff and community for making me feel welcome and the students who shared their experiences and cultural heritage.

This project wrapped up my second tour of Queensland this year and The only thing I won’t miss are the flies!
