Professional Mural Artist Escorted by Police for Painting a Mural

The miniture Sauce painted as a finalist in the Mural Fest Competition.

Today at approximately 10:50 am professional mural artist Sauce was escorted by police out of Mural Park for continuing to complete his mural with aerosols.

Yesterday he was told he could not continue the competition when he began to use aerosols to start his mural. He tried to reason with the competition organisers, stating the use of aerosol is still using paint to apply the mural, and that no fellow competitors had voiced their concerns for his actions.

Sauce says “This competition is not about the art and that’s a shame. I’m happy to be disqualified, but to complete my mural regardless, and not be judged. I traveled from Northern NSW to compete, it feel like a waste not to be able to finish my mural”.

The event organisers have been adamant that Sauce is not to compete as the rules clearly state all artists must use the paint supplied.

Shailer Park State School

Lets Play Together! Myself and Mr. Fires were hard at work again on Tuesday with a mural at Shailer Park State Primary School. The Principal at the school wanted a mural which would brighten the space and also remind the children to be inclusive when playing. It’s always a blast to paint at the schools, as the kids always smile and giggle. Hopefully Aerograffix can inspire the next generation of young minds.

The Sauce Studio Grand Opening

If you haven’t already seen the flyers or received the invite, here is the most exciting news you’ll hear all day. I’m opening my own art studio! It might not sound like much but it is a massive step as a small business owner and as an artist. Aerograffix has been a great adventure, and I intend to continue creating professional murals, but… As an artist I feel the need to grow, change and create more art which is intrinsically motivated. The studio will operate as a retail and visual art studio which will be managed by Communications and Arts Development Manager, Ainslie Rose. If you come and visit, or send an email, it’s probably her you will be talking with. This way, I can focus on my main passion, art. Opening Night is 23rd March 2013 from 4 p.m. at the studio, shop 4/15 cnr Proudfoots Ln and Commercial Rd Murwillumbah NSW. Hope to see you there!

P.S. Don’t forget we’re on Facebook, Twitter, Pintest and Instagram

Coolnwynpin State School

This week, many months after I started the mural I finished a 75 metre wall. The long delay was caused by the rain that just wouldn’t go away at the start of the year. As a mural artist, there are a few things which are necessary to complete a wall, and one of those things is sunshine. After Cr. Paul Gleeson painted the wall, it was in desperate need of some colour and I think the koalas, lorikeets, possums and other wildlife should brighten the school and bring some cheer to the students and staff

Local Artist Travels to Tasmania to Compete.

Professional mural artist Christian Griffiths has been chosen as one of nine finalists for the the fourth year in a row for the International Mural Fest in Sheffield, Tasmania.

Christian, who is based in Murwillumbah, will travel to Sheffield for the week long competition for the first week of April and paint a mural based on a short poem titled Wild and Free.

Christian said “I’m stoked to be a finalist again for the festival. After winning it in 2011, I wanted the chance to defend the title. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other artists in the industry. It’s also bittersweet as I have to travel interstate just to get recognition for my art. Murals are often overlooked when it comes to public art.”

The annual competition is now in it’s tenth year and due to its success in attracting tourists to the small rural town of Sheffield, it has been replicated in Jamestown, South Australia.

XIX LXIX

I am proud to announce that I am a finalist in the International Mural Fest Sheffield. This will be my fourth year as a competitor and I am looking forward to meeting with old friends and seeing some new faces. If you’re in Sheffield for Easter this year, come and visit!

XIX LXIX by Sauce illuminates the possibilities of the space-time continuum, which as humans, we experience without consciousness. Earth is paradoxical by being both monumental and insignificant. Humanity is constantly seeking physical answers to metaphysical questions which creates barriers and restraints on our own freedom.

Re-design, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.

This week I reached an environmental milestone at Aerograffix, with over three hundred aerosol cans recycled. This was only achievable with the help of the team at Signet who kindly provided Aerograffix with an Aerosolv unit. The Aerosolv unit allows for a safe dispersion of the gas and paint residue or VOCs, which means the cans can be recycled. It’s the small steps like this which work towards reducing our carbon footprint.
