December Trip to Emerald

During December Sauce hit the road again, and headed back out to Central Queensland for the third time this year. Working with the Emerald team at Anglicare CQ, Sauce, as usual smashed out murals, signage and workshops for the wider community. Since coming back home, we’ve received some more enquiries from Emerald so I’m sure it’s only a mater of time before he returns again.

Moreton Bay Boys College

Fresh from my week long residency at Calvary Christian College, I headed back to Brisbane and guided the young men at Moreton Bay Boys College through the finer points of aerosol art. This was my second visit to the school and my Senior’s mural was still looking fresh.

I was invited to their Art Show on Friday, the 25th of October, which should have some interesting and exciting works. I also had the pleasure of meeting Christian from CJ Sprayart. Apparently, he was so inspired from last year’s visit, he created his own business. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Brisbane Bayside State College

On Midwinter, I visited Brisbane Bayside State College to facilitate an introductory level workshop for the senior art class and explained the finer points of stencil and aerosol art. We had a five metre wall to work with and in the time frame of a day, we developed a concept, planned a design and applied it to the wall. The students now have a sense of ownership over the space as they chose the wording and concept. Miss Miles was great to work with and I hope the students continually Dare to be Wise.

Richlands East State School

Over the past month I have conducted workshops with the great kids at Richlands East State School. I was assisted by Gloria, a parent and the students to complete the mural titled In Control. The theme was based on ‘Respectful, Resilience and Responsibility” with an analogy based on life’s great journey. I was especially lucky with this mural as I was assisted by the school’s Indigenous Student Council to design and apply the indigenous content of the artwork. I had a great time and I can’t wait to work with the school again.

Sport and Recreation

For the past three months I have been busy planing, designing and painting several large walls in Richlands in association with the Horizon Alliance. This project is about providing an opportunity for community participation by allowing students and young people in the area to participate in the design and painting of murals as facilitated by Aerograffix. This 70 metre long mural took place at the freshly constructed shared access path wall at The Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor project. Here the Horizon Alliance are duplicating the Centenary Highway and building a new railway station at Richlands. There will be more photos to come in the near future from this exciting project which has allowed me to experience working in the construction industry.

Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week

Following the success of last years event and ongoing enthusiasm for visual arts Moorooka Day Service clients, staff, volunteers and supporters celebrated Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week. I had the pleasure of assisting Greg to create another aerosol work on canvas. There was singing, wheelchair dancing, a barbeque and smiles allround.

Blackall

Just had a mammoth ten days in Blackall.

I facilitated workshops to paint banners with Blackall Pony Club and visitor information signs.

Then we did fifteen canvasses with community members along with a few canvas demos at the Blackall Show.

Thanks again to my friends, the wonderful people of Blackall for the ongoing and genuine support to engage community in public art projects.
