Upper Mt Gravatt State School

I wanted to organise somewhere to paint on my down time during the summer break, so I contacted Upper Mount Gravatt State School, as I have an older mural which I would like to renew. The Principal agreed, but he also wanted to commission another mural for the school. The design process for the mural outside the library was different from usual, as it was already created by Bec who is a member of the P & C. While it deviated from my regular style, I am satisfied with the end result and it was an interesting process working with someone else’s concepts.

Central Queensland Tour

Did you hear the news? I’m famous in Central Queensland! During August and September I spent two and a half weeks traveling and painting my way through Central Queensland. During that time, I managed to complete ten murals and assist students to complete fifty-five canvasses which used twenty-two litres of acrylic paint, fifty-two spray cans and sixty nozzles

After a stop over at Ink Addict in Tara  I headed onto Emerald where I smashed an aerosol art demonstration at Central Highlands Multicultural Festival. I squeezed in an illusion style floor mural for the team at Anglicare CQ in the first few days, before running stencil workshops in Emerald, Rubyvale and Springsure. During the tour, I completed murals at Capella State High, Springsure State School, Blackwater State High, the Emerald Neighborhood Centre and the Emerald Kick Wall.

As usual, it was an absolute blast to work with the Anglicare CQ team. They always look after me and it’s great to see the young people enjoy different art forms. There is far too much to show for one blog post, so here is a taste of some of the completed works.

OSHC PCYC

When I received the following list from the kids at Holland Park State School Outside School Hours Care I thought they were pulling my leg.

A pickle
Nike, converse, vans (shoe brand logos)
Ironman
Invader zim
Lightning bolts
Easter eggs
TNT and explosion
Rainbow
Coke bottle with ‘PCYC’ on label instead of ‘coke’
Stars
Ninja stars
Alien and ray gun
Graffiti writing - ‘SENIOR OSHC’
Leprichauns with pot of gold
F1 eleven

Some of the things didn’t make the final cut, but with a bit of imagination, I managed to squeeze as many possible item in for the undercover mural. It was great to work with Mt. Gravatt PCYC again on another fun interior mural.

Tamborine Mountain State School

Last week I headed to Tamborine Mountain State School to work with the Principal, Mr. Jason Smith. I always enjoy heading back to school and creating murals which both the teachers and students can enjoy. Mr. Smith wanted the murals to present the school mottoadd some colour to the school and remind the students it’s cool to go to school!

Shailer Park State School

Lets Play Together! Myself and Mr. Fires were hard at work again on Tuesday with a mural at Shailer Park State Primary School. The Principal at the school wanted a mural which would brighten the space and also remind the children to be inclusive when playing. It’s always a blast to paint at the schools, as the kids always smile and giggle. Hopefully Aerograffix can inspire the next generation of young minds.

Coolnwynpin State School

This week, many months after I started the mural I finished a 75 metre wall. The long delay was caused by the rain that just wouldn’t go away at the start of the year. As a mural artist, there are a few things which are necessary to complete a wall, and one of those things is sunshine. After Cr. Paul Gleeson painted the wall, it was in desperate need of some colour and I think the koalas, lorikeets, possums and other wildlife should brighten the school and bring some cheer to the students and staff

Arts Fest Week

It was fantastic to return as Artist in residence for Calvary Christian College’s Arts Fest Week. I demonstrated aerosol art and stenciling during mural production and on canvas. Students in upper level art classes participated in workshops throughout the productive week, completing amazing works on canvas to display at the Arts Fest exhibition. Once again I had a top time…thanks to all involved in the Arts at Calvary.

Central Queensland Schools Tour

It was great to pack the mural truck and head west to Central Queensland recently. The two week tour entailed working with six schools to complete seven murals, several workshops and stencil art demonstrations. Commencing in Barcaldine I then visited Muttaburra, Aramac, Jericho and Alpha. I had a fantastic time working with new students and on many occasions built on well established relationships with schools Aerograffix has become more than familiar with. The reception in each community was exceptional…I think I can almost claim famous in Central Queensland! I wish to extend my thanks to Mr Collins, all of the principals and staff for such great hospitality, Ozzie at the Accacia, John & Lynda at The Ironbark Inn, Anna’s place, Jeff and the tennis allstars, Mary and the market people at Jericho and Kez the Alpha pool pro. I have a mountain of photos from a very productive tour, here’s a glimpse.
