Aramac

No trip in Central Queensland is complete without a visit to Aramac. Known as “The Centre of the Universe” by some community members, I have had the idea for some time of creating this image, particularly since my first mural in Aramac was a galaxy inspired piece. I gave the town map a non-linear interpretation including items and attractions from surrounding areas arranged in the directions as you would see them standing directly in front of the wall. The other side was painted to serve as a backdrop for camp oven cooking which takes place regularly.

I also took on a couple of other commissions including a bedroom mural, a private bar area and a shipping container for Aramac Bowls Club.

Barcaldine

After a busy couple of weeks in Longreach and Winton the good times continued in Barcy. I completed commissions at the Barcaldine Library and Shakesphere Hotel (known as “The Shakey”) Once again I made new friends and caught up with old ones. Thanks to Barcaldine Regional Council for the opportunity to paint the bricks that were handcrafted in a garage across the street in 1966 by Garden City enterprises.

Murwillumbah

It's been a while between blog posts and unfortunately our internet issues remain...How's your NBN? I responded to my telecommunications experiences with a solo exhibition The Dark Ages and am hoping to launch a new venture in carrier pigeons in the near future.

I've been busy in my studio and have completed a few mural commissions recently. The great team at Greenhills Lodge in Murwillumbah put my skills to good use with two murals for the residents. 

Cabarita

It’s not often I get to work with artists I consider peers which made for the recent mural work at Cabarita SLSC to be such a pleasure. The skills and experience Steve Peterson (Pete Signs) is equipped with after 40 years painting murals and sign painting is amazing. I am looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate again soon and frequenting the Starlight Cinema for upcoming movie events.

Emerald

Emerald kept me busy as always. This time around I facilitated mural art workshops with local youth to create a large mural at PCYC, A fresh coat at the BMX and Skateparks and painted a mandala in the CBD. 

Cairns

After completing murals in Emerald, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra I headed to Cairns. It was great to visit family and complete a large interior commission. I also had the pleasure of collaborating with Mint and Wally who demonstrated some super fresh Far North Queensland graffiti funk. 

Barcaldine

After a solo exhibition at the Grasslands Galley in Tambo in January and completing murals at the local gym in July I returned to Barcaldine for another large scale mural. This time around Barcaldine Regional Council commissioned a public artwork situated in the main street. 

Redland Museum

It was fantastic to return to Redland Museum to complete mural number five. This time I was given the challenge of creating a backdrop replicating the inside of a printery workshop. I found plenty of inspiration within the display and after some research I put together a concept. The committee made a few suggestions and a second draft was developed to accommodate the refinements and ensure historical accuracy. As always it was a pleasure to compliment all of the staff and volunteers hard work in the museum. 

Madison on High Street

Earlier this year I was contacted by the team at Hamilton Hayes Henderson architects to create a mural on an upcoming project. The brief was to reference the history of the site as the apartment building is located where the original Southport railway station operated until 1964. I explored a few options through the concept development stage and came up with a mandala inspired design as my recommended option. After some minor refinements approval was granted and its was time to get cracking. I tried to harness the energy from the jackhammering, concrete cutting and earthshaking machinery operating nearby. At times I could barely hear myself think on the construction site but the contractors were very accommodating and great to work alongside. This was an exciting project to be involved with as only a few times in my career has a client built a wall with a mural in mind. 

Grandchester State School

I was recently contacted by the principal at Grandchester State School to transform an undercover area with some art. I had a great time working at Grandchester and hope the murals will serve the school community for many years to come.
