Portside Wharf

This last week saw me create a Tromp’e Loeil cityscape mural at Portside Wharf, Hamilton. Portside Wharf’s operational organisers required an image which depicted the iconic river and the bustling metropolitan image of Brisbane to decorate the newly renovated interior of the Customs area for the large cruise ships. I designed the mural site specific matching the surrounds and to be viewed on approach rather than directly infront. Applying the 5.4m long X 2.6m high mural predomitaley with brushes and limited use of areosols due to the interior setting made for a very busy but rewarding week.

Green Leaf Cafe

Over the past five years I have enjoyed a great working relationship with the owner of the rebranded Green Leaf Cafe in Morningside. Every visit to the cafe is a pleasure as I always leave with a belly full of food and a head full of ideas about the next piece I can create on their walls. This time I wanted to paint a piece which was vibrant and modern but also keeping in theme with the cafe’s new corporate colours.

The Dragon Boats which cover the front windows encapsulate a different side of Brisbane. I wanted to showcase the energy of both the rowers and the synergy of the natural environment working with the built environment. Hopefully the rowers who visit the cafe for their weekly catch up will appreciate the likeness. 


Arts Fest Week

It was fantastic to return as Artist in residence for Calvary Christian College’s Arts Fest Week. I demonstrated aerosol art and stenciling during mural production and on canvas. Students in upper level art classes participated in workshops throughout the productive week, completing amazing works on canvas to display at the Arts Fest exhibition. Once again I had a top time…thanks to all involved in the Arts at Calvary.

Outside Inn

Outside Inn is an exploration of the accepted norms of suburbia and the sub-verse subculture of graffiti. Artists Kosie and Sauce struggle to find the perfect environment to practice their art due to the battle lines drawn by several local councils. The current political climate demands grey walls replace commissioned murals. As a result, these two artists have been forced to fit the mould of the gallery and display their works to the select few. Outside Inn is a depiction of suburbia, it could be any neighborhood around working class Brisbane. The straight fence, perfectly painted doors and neat lawns are all representations of the Australian dream. What the politicians didn’t account for was the expression of art which breaks trends and barriers.

Outside Inn

During the last week of August, KosieONE and myself gathered all of out latest fine art works and filled the gallery space of Jugglers. Jugglers is a great art space in Fortitude Valley where the artists are encouraged to create their own work, using any medium and any method. This meant myself and KosieONE were also allowed to paint on the interior walls, which is a real rarity when it comes to gallery spaces in South East Queensland. Without the limitations other galleries impose we not only had a top time but produced a quality show.

 

Central Queensland Schools Tour

It was great to pack the mural truck and head west to Central Queensland recently. The two week tour entailed working with six schools to complete seven murals, several workshops and stencil art demonstrations. Commencing in Barcaldine I then visited Muttaburra, Aramac, Jericho and Alpha. I had a fantastic time working with new students and on many occasions built on well established relationships with schools Aerograffix has become more than familiar with. The reception in each community was exceptional…I think I can almost claim famous in Central Queensland! I wish to extend my thanks to Mr Collins, all of the principals and staff for such great hospitality, Ozzie at the Accacia, John & Lynda at The Ironbark Inn, Anna’s place, Jeff and the tennis allstars, Mary and the market people at Jericho and Kez the Alpha pool pro. I have a mountain of photos from a very productive tour, here’s a glimpse.




Eagleby Youth Space

During July I facilitated five aerosol art workshops for Eagleby Youth Space. The participants were young people from the local area. This project was one of many different projects which I have undertaken with Eagleby Youth Space since working with this organisation in 2001, and I look forward to many more in the future.
